Made in Milwaukee Tour
Each September, the 30th Street Industrial Corridor Corporation hosts the Made in Milwaukee Tour, a motorcycle ride touring several successful manufacturers in Milwaukee.  This year's event is scheduled for Saturday, September 13th, 2008 and will inlcude tours of Master Lock, DRS Technologies, Cargill and the Harley-Davidson Museum.  Registration materials are now available.

Environmental Initiatives
Through a partnership with the 30th Street Industrial Corridor Corporation and the City of Milwaukee, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) received $400,000 in U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) funds to perform Phase I and II environmental assessments on properties with suspected petroleum or hazardous substance contamination. All sites targeted for the assessments are located in the 30th Street Industrial Corridor.  For more information, click here. 

Near North Side Plan

The City of Milwaukee's Near North Side Plan Kick-Off was held on Thursday, January 17th.  The planning area includes the portion of the 30th Street Industrial Corridor north of Burleigh.  The boundaries for the entire planning area are Silver Spring on the north; Burleigh Street, with shorter segments of Center Street and North Avenue on the south; I-43 and the Milwaukee River on the east; and Fond du Lac Avenue to 51st Street on the west.  Please visit the Near North Side Comprehensive Plan page on the City's website for more information.

Revitalization Partnerships

Mayor Barrett recently named the 30th Street Industrial Corridor the "Greenlight District" and is commiting signficant City resources to the area including the assignment of full-time staff dedicated to revitalizing the 30th Street Industrial Corridor.  The City also recently launched a 30th Street Industrial Corridor webpage.

A new partnership geared toward creating an action plan to revitalize the 30th Street Industrial Corridor was announced on January 25th, 2007.  The news release is available here.

Safety and Security Initiatives
The ICC and BID #37 are working on several Safety & Security Initiatives in the 30th Street Corridor. Area businesses were surveyed in the summer of 2006 to help guide future projects.  Community walks, organizing block watches and other initiatives are underway or planned for the near future.

Business Improvement District
The ICC worked with businesses to create a Business Improvement District (BID) in the 30th Street Industrial Corridor by assisting with their outreach and organizing. The BID was approved by the City of Milwaukee in October 2005 and became effective in 2006 as BID #37. Click here for more information.

Technical Assistance to Businesses
The ICC provides an array of technical assistance to businesses. Recently, the ICC assisted several companies with grant applications to the Initiative for a Competitive Milwaukee for technology and energy efficiency improvements. Three ICC businesses were awarded grants ranging from $3500 to $4000.

Redevelopment of Center Street Property
The ICC frequently serves as a real estate clearing house and worked with a local manufacturer after they closed a facility in the corridor. The ICC was successful in generating substantial new interest in the property as an alternative to demolition and found a local family-owned minority business to purchase the property. The owners of Lena’s Food Markets purchased the property for use as a distribution facility.
